Back in the Summer of 2010 KDVS received a self-released 7" by Los Angeles based Teen Inc. that blew my preconceived notions of 'nostalgic throwback' a tad askew. Not only does it sound like these guys grew up listening to Prince, but "Fountains" and the b-side "Friend Of The Night" both sound like they came straight outta 1984.

"Fountains"

"Friend Of The Night"

After a little more internet research I discovered that Andrew and Daniel Aged, the brothers who formed Teen Inc., released an EP last year under the further abridged name "Inc." Turns out the Aged bros. cut their teeth touring and recording with acts like Raphael Saadiq, Beck and Elton John just to name a few.

Now it's time to gun your DeLoreans and hit 88mph cos we're going back to the mid-80s for real this time, courtesy of former KDVS DJ Dogtones (aka Ben Johnson) who runs the underground R&B and funk label RysQue' Records out of Sacramento.

Tim Tucker's "C'kret" is the A-side of a split 7-inch with another 80s Oakland funk project called Davinity that Tucker also performed with. This, along with the Pierre/Veronica split (see video above), were both previously unreleased tracks recorded to cassette and only just reissued on RysQue' at the end of last year. For a little more in-depth reading on how Ben came upon these recordings take a look at the Beat Electric blog.
